What is the hardest part of being an interior designer??? Is the the ability to coordinate colors?? Finding a suitable school?? Drafting?? Finding a Job??
This is a very good question & it is still to be determined. However, I believe the hardest part of having a successful Design Business is Marketing yourself to others as a "Must Have". Most people believe that in order to hire a designer, you must be rich or wealthy. This is far from the truth. Honestly, with the economy in the state that it is in, you can find an Interior Designer or Decorator to fit, just about, any budget. Depending on the scope of your project & your initial budget, someone is always available to help.
And help is what is needed??? I have customers that come in to buy rugs or furniture & they CAN NOT make a decision. Most people can't conceptualize a rug under a sofa & coffee table or a dining table with 4 chairs & a bench, let alone an entire room with all the finishes & accessories. This is why designers are here & what designers go to school for! Even if you can't afford or don't want the full designer experience, it saves you time & money to consult with a professional on the different options that are out there & gives designers the business & opportunity to prove their abilities.
Next time you decide to pick out a new sofa or paint the walls..... call me & help could be closer than you think...lol

Chicago: Say Hello to Fall Fashion
By Iman A. Jefferson
Three years after their highly successful boutique Solemates opened in Lincoln Park, husband-and-wife owners Brian and Autumn Merritt decided to take their classic, sophisticated twist on street wear to another level with the opening of their new shop, Sir & Madame.
Located in the ultra-hip Ukrainian Village neighborhood, the 1,125-square-foot space and design center offers 1930s-inspired, high premium T-shirts and cut-and-sew items, such as wovens, knits, and denim.
The shop also features accessories for both men and women, and New York brands such as The Brooklyn Circus (BKc), Cubannie Links, 3Sixteen, and Osborn Design. Other lines the shop carries include Cheap Monday, Thorocraft, Finn, Found Objects, and Rare Eyewear. Besides selling hard-to-find goods, Sir & Madame provides wardrobe styling and brand consulting should you need a bit of assistance. Be sure to check out the end-of-season sale.

Philadelphia: C’est Magnifique
Parisians (and fan Halle Berry) have long known the aesthetic brilliance of French designer Isabel Marant, but her line, including her casual-cool leather jacket, is often hard to find in the U.S. That’s changing this fall, however, when Adresse becomes the only Philadelphia boutique to carry Marant’s autumn/winter 2010 collection.
Alongside the designer’s staple leather jackets and accessories, Adresse will show the black peg leg skinny jeans that played a starring role in Marant’s most recent runway show, her wool coats with leather trim, and a bevy of print shirts and dresses that showcase the burgeoning star’s talent for creating well-tailored, edgy basics.
